I think everyone at various moments reach the point of "walking the wire", especially since "this point" has a level of degrees to it.
Thus, this "feeling" can be applied to even the simplest daily event. I could have titled this piece "A Bad Day".

What is important to note about this piece, though, is that it is not a message of negativity, but rather declaring we all have choices in these situations. The person on the wire can jump otherwise throwing in the towel, shutting down, and so forth, or they can cower to time, outside demands, expectations from others as well as self, as indicated by the man with the watch impatiently waiting on the left side, or take the route of enlightenment defined by the walker, symbolized by "Mary" in the top right corner. There is always an alternative to making the jump or allowing oneself to be pushed.

The key is a symbol of hope. A solution. A way out. An answer.
